The New Mill at Greywell

When I got home this evening the light was just wonderful and so I decided to head over to the 'New Mill' just up the road. There is an old mill in the village as well but it hasn't been used as such for at least 200 years but still has it's wheel. These buildings date from the early to mid 1800's and, until last year, was still a working grain dryer and mill. Alas the owner has decided to try to sell the complex fro conversion into some sort of luxury 'barn' conversion - all 10,000 sq ft!! So I decided a while back that it would be good to start photographing it before it is lost to some advertising executive or merchant banker. These are the first shots that I've processed from the 60 I took this evening before the light faded (and just as the bat survey people arrived). There will be more and hopefully some inside the old buildings shot on film.

I like the first one. keeps me looking. Looks like a great place to shoot. I suspect you'll be going back a few times.

There's no excuse not to as it's less than a 5 minute walk from my house! I processed these together because the tones were similar. But many of the others are more suited to monochrome which was my original intention when I wandered down there.

It will be interesting to see the monochrome shots.

Bat survey eh? To the bat mill, batman!

I like the 'travel' in the first image - like looking down the perspective of train tracks

With a little editing, the white cross on the roof could form a nice religious symbol in the decay

I started playing with the cross in the detail shot I posted. Might work in a long shot using a telephoto. I'll keep an eye to the lighting during the week.

Funnily enough I think I saw a Robin this evening too. Bats, Robin and a Holy Roof. Too much of a riddle for me!! :)

Dinner, Dinner, Dinner, Dinner, Dinner, Dinner, Dinner, Dinner, Batman!
