The Return

From Dundee to Edinburgh. This time I zeroed Clarity in Raw and decreased Structure in Nik Silver, and a few other tweaks in Levels here and there...You might detect a little influence from the paintings of Turner

And even a Van Gough influence - impossible in Black and White, surely? :)

The banding is an issue. Once or twice it really is too much, and once or twice it can add interest. I'd ideally like to be able to control it. Any suggestions?

You shooting RAW or JPEG Rob?

If RAW, you could go to 16 bit conversion in your post processing software - and then when you convert to jpeg for Web, make sure you use max quality.

Also - when downsizing the image, use the resampling option for 'smooth gradients' - at least I think that's the option in Photoshop anyway...

Very interesting Rob!
the last three are the most effective I think!
not sure about the banding ... What process causes it?

The second without such a strong vignette would work very well for me I think

Not sure how banding is created, but I'll look at what Chris suggests, and if I can get rid of it I'll do them again. But I'm off out shopping for the afternoon...SWBO's birthday on Wednesday...I wonder if she'd like an XPro-1?

The whole look is very compelling, especially #10 with the boat and the look of the water and reflected light

Used to smear Vaseline over a filter back in the day to get a similar feel - no idea why I had a jar in my camera bag though... seems odd now I think of it! :D

She'd love one Rob - I guarantee it! :D

Go for it Rob, if she doesn't like it you could always use it yourself and show her all the shots she could have taken;).

I found banding becomes a problem when you go too excessive with curves.
