The Seagull And The Waves

Lesley Jones

Otherwise know as Zooey
I really don't know what to say. I remember this trip to Dungeness with my husband on an incredibly windy day and I even recall taking a few photographs with the old Leica. However, the negatives have sat in my ring binder for years - no scanning and no prints. I just discovered this tonight and it has become one of my own personal favourites.

1940 Leica IIIb with 1938 5cm Summar lens. No cropping and not much other than putting back a bit of contrast after a rather flat scan :)

Nice scene Lesley, I love those slopping beaches where the large waves dont run 50 or more meters up the beach to get you wet. Yet instead crash into the sand or shingle.
Great to swim in if you can get out past the first breaker and there is not too much undertow. Like this image a lot.

Thanks both! @Julian de'Courcy - I love the water, but I'm a poor swimmer. So many times though, I can't resist and I will wade out to get wet, regardless of the time or place. I remember 2.00 one freezing winter morning in Blackpool, full clothed and those were the only day clothes I had to wear on the coach back home (I had gone there to dance). One summer afternoon at the seaside when I had lunch in a pub on the way back home, dripping wet. Skinny dipping at midnight in a freezing lake in Mongolia (I didn't sleep for the rest of the night for shivering). Most recently, fully clothed in the fountains in Trafalgar Square after a show at the London Palladium (my husband pretty much disowned me for that as I dripped my way back to the train station...) :)

Lovely shot Lesley. I wish we could see your pix a bit bigger!

Superb again Lesley. Any other worthies on the roll?

Um... I found a couple more and one that didn't work, but maybe it did, if you see what I mean. You may be pleased to hear that although I threw away the old film sitting in the fridge today (it has been there since I won the Sony), I have saved the 35mm to practice cutting the leader and loading the old Leica. I have a load of Ilford sitting in the bottom of the freezer somewhere and we are all going to have a trip out soon :)
