Interesting statue, isn't it. Looks like he's pulling back from whoever might approach him. All the angles add to a sense of discomfort. Well, that's what I see

The poor chap looks anything but comfortable but the angle he is seated at works well against the perfect verticals and right angles of the great structure that envelops him. The shadows of the columns feature very nicely in the image.
