the smoke house

on our way to west virginia last fall to shoot the mill we stopped at new market battlefield (civil war) in new market, virginia. nothing in this place was straight, including the plexiglass panels designed to keep people out of the rooms in the house. it was like walking into the hall of mirrors at the fun house. the main house was used as a hospital, the family that lived there moved into the 4' tall cellar. this building was the families smoke house, or, to some of the civil boys and the farmer's daughter, the love shack.. i'm not sure if it was the love making or a canon ball, but the self guided tour said one side of the cabin had collapsed at one point and was then rebuilt after the war..

Ah, wondered what the song Love Shack was all about - now I know! :D

Loving that fall foliage Beth - lovely shot of rusty orange

Don't get much fall color here unless we head up into the local mountains - which reminds me, that I must plan to do just that!

well, since you mention it.... the leaves on the ground were brown and orange and the leaves on the tree were bright green. photoshop to the rescue! we had much better color in west virginia, but this was foothills and west virginia is in the mountains.

if anyone's interested the leaves were changed using nik color efex foliage filter and a mask.
