The Two Towers

This is a follow up to the last thread (http://www.realphotographersforum.com/landscape-architecture/7441-tower.html). Dan identified the location (but hasn't said where yet - come on Paul, you must know where these are!) and hinted at the presence of a second. And indeed there is.

Thanks Brian. At first I was worried that it was a DSG but on closer inspection it was just a pigeon (or is he using those too now?!).

And then there's the guy who walked all the way down the 'causeway' carrying a plastic bucket and proceed to wade parallel to the shore up to his chest (he's just stepped into the water in this shot). What was he doing?

I see you've snapped the new DSP Pete!

Very nice shot - loving the moody clouds

Is that oor Chris away oot there in the watter? (I cannae see his bike.)

He probably parked it there earlier thinking it was a lifeguard station but then the tide came in. All makes sense now. Maybe he'd been up in the tower checking out the new DSPs! ;)

Thanks Chris. I had a few hours to kill and was actually searching for WWII pill-boxes for the series I am working on but ended up on the wrong side of the estuary and stumbled upon these on the seafront. It was bright but there were loads of clouds over the sea. I also shot the towers on 120 film but I haven't had a chance to develop the film yet.

What?! And almost on your doorstep. These are the, now disused, lighthouses at Dovercourt on the Essex Coast just down from Harwich. When in use (and replacing two older wooden lighthouses) they operated as a pair such that when a ship was aligned with the two lamps it was on the correct course. They were built in 1863 (the significance of the date Rob) and restored in 1988.

If you want WWII pill boxes, we have loads near us. There's one by our drive, one in the field next door and one on the neighbouring village green :)

Thanks Lesley, there are a fair few around me here in Hampshire too. This was a bit of an unplanned sortie and I ended up on the south side of the estuary rather than the north which is how I stumbled upon Dovercourt and its towers! I'll plan it better next time, especially having now found the web site that provides map references to most of the known fortifications in the UK as a Google map overlay!

Finally revealed!! I had every hope in Paul getting it, that's why I didn't say. Lol. Don't know why, I think Pete was getting me excited!! :)
I took the Hawrich to Holland van Hoak/Rotterdam sea crossing when I visited my relatives in Germany. And this location was my kill time :)
Great shot pete, great shot! :)
