Here we are again with number 6 of The Waterfall Diaries and today we are in deepest Perthshire(though officially now Stirling due to boundary changes) in the little village of Killin…

I hate to say this after all your other excellent waterfall pictures...but there is something about this that doesn't quite work for me!
The trees look artifical, somehow, almost flat.

I'll have a play, if thats Ok, and see if I can put my finger on it..

Or am I going completely mad?

no your not going mad lol, it was taken aaaaaages ago and it's not the easiest falls to get a good shot of as the water is so fast moving that you can't 'really' get to water level without fear of death

here is an updated one taken yesterday

But the second one in the article is superb Davie. Another interesting episode. I was to quick and the new image arrived after I first posed my reply. Now that is spectacular and the figures really give a sense of scale. Raging is the word that springs to mind.

Thanks Pete, the second one in the article is the dangerous one, over the bridge much to the shock of the tourists lol

Ah yes, I see the problem. And this is likely to get worse with the rain and snow melt I presume.

I found the problem I was having with the first picture. It was the flatness of the trees. I used Topaz to bring out a bit more detail in the picture and everything looked a lot better. It wasn't even a big change.

i like that , i've never used topaz before and to be honest i'm not sure what it is :( is it is plug in ?

Its a photoshop compatible plugin (that will work with other software) that can do a whole host of wonderful and sometimes bizarre and unecessary things to your images.

It can however at time give just that little tweak that lifts an image.
Its not to everyones taste, but I enjoy it...

I can see why you are so drawn to these locations Davie, I have to admit to seeing that Adrian has made a good PP to it...the second is just awesome and the folks give a true sense of scale something that is often missed or lost in some landscapes...Good work again mate :)

Cheers Kev, I'm enjoying writing these articles and have the next one written waiting to go lol . I like Adrian's PP as well admit helped bring up the trees. I don't really like the most recent picture because its not what I usually do if you know what I mean, it's more photo-journalist type than something I would print ... Does that make any sense ?

Sure does but sometimes what we normally DON'T do is good too :) You'll be getting a name for yourself soon as the waterfall guy. hope it goes well the effort you put in to getting these shots is enough on it's own :)

That's a double edged sword I think, in one way I don't mind in another I think to myself that I don't only do landscapes lol . I might turn the whole lot into an eBook or something when I eventually finish them

Bloody hell, that second shot is nuts - talk about a small stream in the front yard! :D

Yeah the houses do kinda put it in perspective lol
