What did it turn out to be? The family pet would do this for a good 30 mins, only to retrieve a plastic bottle. Lol. Useless treasure hunter :P

Fortunately nothing. But if I had to guess it was an armadillo or skunk den. I stood by just to make sure nothing including Stanley got hurt. Sometimes there are huge nests of field mice. Stanley has been to the Emergency Vet on more than one occasion due to his rather inquisitive nature......

To be serious for a moment, I'm just never sure how to handle it. I want him to enjoy being a dog especially now that he's approximately 12 years old. I adopted him so I'm just not sure of his age. On the other hand, he has been bitten twice by copperheads, he had to get 10 stitches in his chest from I'm not sure what (the vet guessed an old barbed wire fence), he got a stick jammed in the corner of his eye, had a horrible cut on one of his pads, and he's been sprayed by skunks 5 times.

Honestly I don't know what the answer is. He gets to be a dog and he's really well behaved around people and other dogs. I think that has a lot to do with it. On the other hand, I've spent a lot of time at the Emergency Vet......

He used to fetch turtles all the time. I would have to go find a nice quiet place to put them.
