Thinking of Atget

Just got back from the cinema with the girls. We saw "Les Miserable." (We all enjoyed it very much.) Almost every other scene in the film inspired me to think,..."they must have used some of Eugene Atget's images as inspiration for the sets."

Hannah wants to see it...
... Is it good?
The four of us loved it. It's quite long,...well over two hours. But we never felt that it needed to hurry up. I'm glad we went. I always feel that one measure of a quality film is whether it keeps you talking about it in a good way afterwards. Over dinner the four of us talked about it a lot.

Looks like it has some great cinematography and star cast, only problem for me is i can't stand musicals!
Musicals ain't for everyone, Darren, that's for sure. And to be honest I've never felt that Les Miz was my cup of tea. But this film is very accessible. And for me personally, the accessibility--meaning I could identify clearly what each character was singing and why--gave me the chance to appreciate the lyrics (the construction of which to tell a story to music and in rhyme I find quite fascinating generally).

Yeah, Beth. I noticed that leaning edifice, too. It was a wee bit like something out of Popeye's village, that one.

Sound was good. Very good in fact. And very lively when it came to the thunder of cannon and the crack of rifle-shot. Voices were good, too.

I'm not into musicals either, but I do like moulin rouge ...
Hannah was tellin me off the other day - "how can you like music and films so much but not like musicals" ... My excuse was that maybe it's not musicals i don't like, it's just a lot of films that are musicals? I shall give this one a go I think, hopefully it will prove my theory
