Interesting stuff ... and it actually makes me realise that the main use i had intended it for (studio/product) one of the longer nikon lenes is actually perfect for me ... id never thought about the perspective issues of using a wide angle lens for product photography! ... just need a £grand+ now!

All this talk about tilt shift made me get my Canon 90mm TSE out of its box, I bought it a few years ago and never used it much.

I understand it better now

The Nikon 85mm would probably be perfect on full frame for products etc,

Hamish - didn't you want the Tilt Shift to play with the DOF?

I've found doing the product type shots of the 8mm cameras, that the 100mm Macro has provided excellent DOF control, and no forced perspectives.

Might be the sort of lens that you'd want to look at? - assuming there's a Nikon equivalent.

The nikon is a tilt/shift AND it's a 1:2 macro ...
I want it for giving me MORE dof rather than less, that's the most important point of this really
My main issue before was that it just doesn't rotate ... Or at least it doesn't without some tinkering ...
But rotate is not as important for the sort of thing
As I said, it had not occured to me that getting only a wide angle t/s wouldn't really work out for product stuff because of the distortion etc

I had thought about upgrading my nikon 60mm macro for the nikon 105 vr which is by reputation very very good indeed!

Don't forget that tilting the axis alters the focal plane. This means of course that you can choose what is in focus but this is actually a different effect to DoF controlled by the aperture setting.

I'm yet to experience it mate, I'm just working on what I have seen from video demos ... What's te difference on the end photo?

An example here, look at the coin pictures and mouse over it to see the effect of altering the plane of focus, same f8 aperture gives much more in focus. would be good for product photography

Thanks Mark, that saves me writing a reply to Hamish! A live view demo is a good idea. Do you have video capability on any of your bodies? It might be worth recording. At least screen grabs.

My 60D has video so there is a possibility of a video to show the tilt shift in real time.
