To The Best Friend I've Ever Had

Stanley was diagnosed with cancer last week. He's almost 13. The vet didn't think surgery or any type of therapy would be good at his age. I may get a second opinion from a vet I used when I lived in Dallas.

The vet here said he still had a ways to go.

I honestly don't know how I will go on living without him. It would be impossible for me put into words how much I love him. He saved my life. I wouldn't be here today without him.

My sincerest apologies for the sob story. I haven't been feeling very good since I found out and I don't have any friends besides my dogs. So I guess I just needed to get that off my chest.

Thanks!

I certainly feel you Steve. People who haven't had the joy of a wonderful dog have a difficult time understanding...but I most certainly do. The 13-15 years that most give us is far too short. Please take time to enjoy what time you have left...and all that he has given you...and you have given back to him.

Steve,
You don’t have to apologise – there are enough of us in here who understand perfectly well. I’ve said the same words over and over again. There was a fluffy black kitten that I hand reared from four days. He became my baby and died from acute renal failure before his fifth birthday. My Wiggy cat who guarded me from unseen monsters and who also hated me having a bath. He howled at me every bath time for over fifteen years. I also thought I couldn’t go on without Purdy after losing her a year ago to a brain tumour, after we fought it for seven years.

Rob and Glenn are right. Enjoy the time you have left and be grateful that he came into your life. You can NEVER replace them, but you do find others to take up residence in other part of your heart. You do have friends in here and you can unburden whenever you like.

Take care...

Never apologise for being a caring person and as one who lost my old boy last her I do undstand how you feel towards this old guy, my old lad did the same for me and although I have a new friend I still miss old Booey like mad, treasure the time you have with him..

Steve, I am so very sorry to hear about Stanley. No need for apologies at all and your love for him shines through in your pictures. I too would be devastated. Please feel free to lean on your friends here and enjoy the time you have together day by day.

So sorry to hear about Stanley. We don't have dogs but we do have two cats so my husband and I understand where you are coming from. Get that second opinion - you never know what they might say.
