What is your dream camera?

*looks on the back of his Voigtlander Bessa* what is this 'screen' you speak off? Witchcraft I tell you! :D *is happy with his 6x9 sized sensor* :D

Would it make you angry Larry if I told you that sometimes I post thing because I know I'm going to get a really good response from you ... ;)
i know everything you have just written is true! And in many ways I completely agree with you ... But often for me this pragmatic approach is just not me!
I love my AF cameras ... I get a little bit excited everytime they bring out a firmware update for the x100 in the hope that the AF is a smidge better
my d3 auto-focuses so rapidly with the 24-70 it makes manually focusing seem like a pointless joke for certain tasks!

But then I pick up my Epson rd1(for eg) and slow down ... I'm my fastest at mf with an rf but the experience is more tactile I feel a greater connection to what I'm doing ... I in certain circumstance enjoy it more!
The is no logical argument that can tell me that efficiency is more important than my personal enjoyment of what I am doing!

You have lived through the technological advances, you shot through times where you had no choice but to use these things ... I can completely understand why technology that makes things easier/quicker/more effective appeals to you! I wasn't there ... I didn't suffer it ...
In fact for many younger photographers like my self using manual focus is almost a right of passage - if we can do it the "proper way" we can do it any way! An ethos I'm sure you agree with?! I have walked that path, I know I can take a photo with pretty much any camera you put in my hand. But having walked it I fell in love with many of te methods I discovered ... Manual focusing for eg ... Using rangefinder cameras is something that really touched me! The tactile nature of the process just appeals to me!

But don't forget you are talking to a person who sold an m6 and kept an r2a because the r2a has aperture priority!
A person that tells people not to turn thier back on digital and modern equipment as it is often a great deal of help in getting the shot!
As i say I appriciate the advantage of modern kit I just choose not to take advantage of it in favour of somthing that I enjoy ... Not all the time ... But when I choose!

As for ff sensors ... Well yes, the xpro1 does appear to perform as well if not better than the d700 (for eg) ... But if it were ff it may well be even better ... It may well increase the size of the camera too I accept that!
But for me a ff sensor in a camera of this ilk would let me use almost any 35mm format lens at its intended fov!
I could mount my vc 15mm lens and use it as a 15mm for eg to do that otherwise I would need an m9! (or a roll of film ;))
my point being that my desire for full frame is not just to do with quality but to do with removing what I currently see as a limitation!
My list of cameras I would like includes an m9 xpro and d4 ... My perfect camera would infact be:
Sensor size, Af performance, low light performance and solid build of d4
Rf from the m9
Size and vf of xpro1
that would remove and limitations as I see them ...
is it possible? Dunno... It's certainly not currently on the market!
Hense me wanting a range of gear (that is unfortunalty prohibitively expensive)

Angry? Oh, quite the opposite. As should be obvious, I greatly enjoy crafting a response.

I fully appreciate that cameras are not always bought as tools, based upon return on investment. I also appreciate that there are as many approaches to photography as there are photographers. And I love articulating my viewpoint! :p :D
