Quite dramatic, almost like infrared photography, Glenn.
Diagonal backdrop lines, and lines going and crossing
in all directions within the circles of wheels.
Love the composition on this Glenn and, as Rob says, the contrast of lines and circles really adds to it. I do find the mid-tones a bit blocked and heavy though.
Pete...when you get a moment...could you please explained what you mean by "blocked"? I actually tried to make the midtones heavy to reduce some of the information that kept drawing my eye away from the wheels.
I think what I'm seeing is what you have done intentionally. By 'blocked' I mean lacking in tonal range, creating a slightly flat look. I'm guessing that there was more differentiation between the wheels and the background in the original scene due to differences in colour but when converted the B&W they gained similar tones. It might be possible to use colour filtration during the conversion to help retain that differentiation - I guess you tried that though. Does that make any sense?
Yes Pete...now I understand. And you are right...the wheels are bright yellow...and when it was converted the background became very black while I was trying to keep the detail of the wheels. Thank you for taking the time to explain...always.
