I feel I can call him by his first name because I used to sleep in his bed. No, really I did! As a child of parents who never owned their own home, somehow my Dad's small engineering business got involved with a woman who lived in a mansion that was mentioned in the Domesday Book. I used to spend my summer holidays there and it was where Churchill also used to stay a couple of decades earlier. I was allowed to sleep in the four poster bed and I remember he had painted a chequered hunting scene over the open fireplace.
