Yourself as a child - please contribute.

Here I am, aged five perhaps? Yes, three sisters, all wearing clothes made by my mother, who also made her own dress, and also knitted all the knitwear you see. Presumably, my father is taking the picture. I remember him having a camera like a Rollei, which we all took turns in looking down at the upside-down views. I actually remember those socks, which were in different shades of blue. Those who have observed my crazy hair these days, can here see that it was my mother who passed on those genes to me! Good to see me so happy! Not sure my mother is so happy. Things were about to unravel between my parents over the coming years, so it is easy for me to imagine that had already started, but perhaps not. I'd like to think there was a time when we were all happy together...

Who's next?

Are you second from left, Brian? You haven’t changed a bit. Oops, I’ve just read your comment. Sorry about that ☺️

Many adults hadn’t learned to smile yet for photographs. People do it automatically now, no need for “after three, say cheeeeese!” We are all actors now…

I thought you and a guitar were one since birth, Rob. Now I see that it was not always so.

The idea of “Yourself as a child” is very interesting. My problem is that my father took a lot of pictures and had a large family. I am the family repository of all these photos that are locked in some closet, and to be able to retrieve even a single photo of me as a child is a task I don't feel like tackling.

I don't know if it's okay to post a picture where I was probably still in a womb. It's a photo I love (and have at hand) because it reminds me of 'Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe' by Manet.

I am the invisible one all the way to the right.

Yes, it does have a Manet feel. Absolutely it is welcome! What a wonderful picture to have!

I am glad I started this thread, but understand that photos of ourselves as kids are not always readily available.

I'm glad you started this thread too, Rob. Sadly I cannot contribute as I have no photographs of me as a child (and few even of me in my late teens / twenties). Somewhere I have a DVD 'scan' of some movies an uncle made and I 'feature' (along with a tricycle) in one of those. I'm not sure where it is at the moment, but will look. The few photos that there were (taken by my mother using a box Brownie) will be with my sister and so, to all intents and purposes, lost I suspect.

Family has never been one of my strong points!

A trip down memory lane, a nice subject. If times were different than they are at the moment, I would board the bus there, but I am afraid I cannot; too much has happened in the last few years, too much sadness. So I shall not participate here, but I applaud the intention.

We were children once. There are always memories. And photographs.

Thanks for starting this thread, Rob.
On this rainy afternoon waiting for a film to dry I've raided the chest inherited from my mother known as The Family Archive. Always an adventure as I usually find documents and photographs either forgotten about and sometimes unknown by me. A chest full of memories: mostly good, but of course, a few sad and a lot that are personal and not for sharing.
Enough of the preamble, here's a photo of a very studious me from about 1960. The original is on stippled paper so unfortunately hasn't copied well.

Great family picture. (Flamboyant socks. Excellent!)

Delightful! (Surely there was an issue or two of "Classics Illustrated" in that magazine rack.)

Good comments, Pete and Julian. Understood in both cases.

Peter, that's an excellent shot, and we once shared the same fashion. I also think I remember those books behind you, or at least very similar.

Or something very similar. I can't remember 😆.
Nor do I remember seeing that photograph before. It was a discovery for me this afternoon and I couldn't resist a 'Wow' when I saw it.

Me, my mom, my aunt and my cousin. I guess I'm about 1? Odd that I have light hair and my mom has dark hair and my aunt has light hair and my cousin has dark hair.View attachment 19634
Great picture, Gary. I guess it was a warm day. Is this in Oregon?
