I was going to post something with the same title about something else, but more of that later. I need fingers crossed please - I got another bad cat bite tonight. The last time I ended up in A&E all night. Purdy doesn't mean any harm, but the treatment for her brain tumour now means two pills a day. I'm very good at pills as I do up to ten amongst various cats and ferrets per day anyway. I've been trying to be kind by giving them both at once, but it's fiddly and last night I was chomped. Clearly she was ready for me tonight and I have a deep puncture at the base of my finger.
Almost exactly a year ago I was assist feeding her while she recovered from pneumonia and the same thing happened. I went to work and during the day I got severe pain in my wrist. Thinking it was down to all the surgery I've had, I ignored it. On getting home, I took my coat off to find red tracks from my hand to my elbow. That's interesting, I thought and carried on with the evening chores. By bed time I was Googling red tracks and found they indicated septicaemia, so I rang the NHS helpline. I was told in no uncertain terms to rush to hospital as quickly as possible. By the time I got seen the tracks had reached my arm pit. It was pretty scary stuff.
They stuck me on huge doses of antibiotics, but I'm allergic to a lot of drugs and sure enough, I was throwing up the next day and couldn't keep the tablets down. My husband had to rush home from work to collect another prescription.
Tonight I bit my finger and stuck one of those Aspivenin pumps on it - by the time I'd finished we had a sink full of blood clots. Hopefully I got the bacteria out in time...
