Wish me luck!

I was going to post something with the same title about something else, but more of that later. I need fingers crossed please - I got another bad cat bite tonight. The last time I ended up in A&E all night. Purdy doesn't mean any harm, but the treatment for her brain tumour now means two pills a day. I'm very good at pills as I do up to ten amongst various cats and ferrets per day anyway. I've been trying to be kind by giving them both at once, but it's fiddly and last night I was chomped. Clearly she was ready for me tonight and I have a deep puncture at the base of my finger.

Almost exactly a year ago I was assist feeding her while she recovered from pneumonia and the same thing happened. I went to work and during the day I got severe pain in my wrist. Thinking it was down to all the surgery I've had, I ignored it. On getting home, I took my coat off to find red tracks from my hand to my elbow. That's interesting, I thought and carried on with the evening chores. By bed time I was Googling red tracks and found they indicated septicaemia, so I rang the NHS helpline. I was told in no uncertain terms to rush to hospital as quickly as possible. By the time I got seen the tracks had reached my arm pit. It was pretty scary stuff.

They stuck me on huge doses of antibiotics, but I'm allergic to a lot of drugs and sure enough, I was throwing up the next day and couldn't keep the tablets down. My husband had to rush home from work to collect another prescription.

Tonight I bit my finger and stuck one of those Aspivenin pumps on it - by the time I'd finished we had a sink full of blood clots. Hopefully I got the bacteria out in time...

Cheers Dave! I'm not having a good day. I have some worrying news about our llamas. They have been routinely tested for worm eggs and treated as necessary. Last year our normal vet stopped doing farm animals. As the new vet is so far away, it was agreed that I drop the samples off at the old vet as normal and they would fax the results to the new vet.

We got samples just before Easter, but the lab was very slow. We'd booked the vet for boosters anyway, but when he came the results still weren't in. He wormed for the normal stuff and said if there was anything worrying when the results came through, he would get in touch. He didn't. We just tested again and there is a nasty worm present and now I have the results from the Easter test, I can see it was there back then. The local vet faxed the results off, but nobody seems to have done anything about it. I'm fuming...

it's chain mail gauntlets you need, not luck

Oh heck!! Now Jasper's walked through my dinner plate and he's the one with... you don't want to know that. I'm going to call it a day and go to bed. I can't edit with a bad finger and I've had enough Googling liver fluke in llamas to find they can drop dead without warning. I'm calling the vet out tomorrow to treat them immediately :(

Good luck with it Lesley. Hopefully by the time you see this you'll be on the mend.

I got bit by a cat once. Deep (and painful) puncture wound in the soft flesh on my left hand between the thumb and index finger. Another time,...many years ago, I sustained a puncture wound from a human tooth in the soft flesh between the knuckles of the index and forefinger on my right hand. I got those same poison tracks up my arm that you did, but not from the cat!

Hope you're ok Lesley, and that Thursday is a better day!

I heard it could be rough up in Scotland but I had no idea Brian!

Hopefully today is a better day Lesley.
