Working the sails

Excellent Glenn. Love these ships, full of character. The Tall ships race starts here at Falmouth at the end of the week. Sadly an event I'll miss but have been to in the past.

Thanks Julian. The Constitution is the oldest active US Navy warship...so many of the active Navy personnel get a chance to sail on her. This time of year the newly selected Chief Petty Officers get a week to find out what it was like in the "real" Navy.

Love the them all....but the last sells it to me Glenn....There is so much going on...all the lines and the S&S taking the eye..

Thanks Kev. The Bosun (in charge of the rigging) spends 18 months on sailing ships to be able to handle her. I believe the term "learn the ropes" comes from this. I have spent many an hour looking at the complex rigging...and thinking about the sailors who fought her. Amazing...

Fine set, Glenn. Are you familiar with the novels of Patrick O'Brien? Great stuff. The various novels in the Master & Commander series comprise the 18th Century seafaring adventures of the Royal Navy's Jack Aubrey and ship's surgeon (and spy) Steven Maturin. Very excellent literature, in my view, and great reads for anyone, let alone a man who loves the sea, the navy, etc.

Thanks Brian. And yes...I'm a big fan of Master & Commander. It was a difficult read the first time through...but it was good enough that I had to read it twice more. ;) Which reminds me...it's been 10 years or so...I need to dust it off.
