10 stop ND filter

I suspect this is an area where 'you get what you pay for' - which doesn't really help! :D

:)

It's likely that I need to bite the £124.99 bullet and get the B+W 110 (10 stop 77mm ND filter) from warehouseexpress.

... Yep, bit of reading, that should do ya!
They were talking about these on DPR a few moths bak when a bunch of faders were released ...
I think there are some disadvantages, colour shift etc, but I doubt it would be an issue for just a bit of a play!

So that's how they work!

The good ones do this without shifting the colour temp of the light - that's the trick

And a consistant ND across the whole image - that's the other trick,

Using them is a process - you have to pre-focus with minimum ND (while the AF can still see the target)

Switch to MF so the AF doesn't go all wobbly

Play with your ND level to suit the scene

Take the shot

Yeah, my approach would be similar

Just set the camera on a tripod
Set the focus without the filter
Switch to manual focus
Attach the nd
Then set exposure and shoot

Same goes for IR shooting with a filter on the lens...

i bought one of the really cheap ones to play with, if i like the idea of variable then i'll go for the more expensive one, if i don't i've only spent a tenner. it'll be interesting to compare and contrast a mega cheap one with a £110 one though

I went for the 2 cpl's for £2 option ... 49mm for the x100

It works too... But I'll have to show you tomorrow as I can't be bothered to get my laptop for now :)

Over a minute exposure in my living room at f2 200iso and that only got a tiny bit of light in!
