1st Shots: Mamiya C33

80mm lens. Ilford FP4 Plus. Developed in instant coffee. (Caffenol-C-M.) Had problems loading the reel. Dreaded moisture! One problem led to another, and pretty soon it became a salvage operation. However, I got all the pics although one or two show residual effects of film sticking to itself and frantic attempts to unstick and air the film without exposing it to light.

Nevertheless, happy with camera and with Caffenol C-M.

Wonderful, Brian! Worth the effort. Great tones, lovely square format :) But it looks like Sadie needs glasses. I think she's trying to read the lens info., with difficulty.

I think this is a great camera for you. Any shots of the camera?

These are the clincher for me ... I'm going I try this ASAP!
Do you feel that you have perfected the technique/found te right recipe?
the tonality of these is just wonderful I think, it's really the sort of thing I like ...

... What's the choice of film?
Im thinking I might push a roll of hp5 ... Maybe delta 3200 ... To 6400 with it ... You reckon that would be mega grain territory? It would be with the blad so the relative grain size would be smaller if that makes sence?

Now there's a clever idea. Incorporating a finger print on the negative to prevent copyright theft! ;)

It certainly looks like you've cracked the developer 'settings' Brian. There's a super tonal range here and it has a definite look to it I think.

Sadie is a lovely animal but she is also a lazy midden! She just lays around the hoose sunbathing and reading all day. Occasionally watches telly. From time-to-time she'll utter a bark just to let us think she's doing her job. Here she is sunbathing and she had forgot to put her sunglasses on.

I actually meant to, but forgot due to the emergency film recovery operation, to take a fotie of the camera and post it. I'll do that. Thanks, Rob!

Thanks, Hamish. I wouldn't say I've perfected anything, but I have now done two rolls of medium speed film (Fuji Acros--100ASA--and Ilford HP4 Plus--125ASA) in Caffenol C-M and I'm happy with what I have gotten. The previous three attempts were different recipes: all were underdeveloped, although a semi-stand technique I used on on a roll of Tri-X that I pushed to 1600 gave me somewhat acceptable results.

Try having a look at the Caffenol Cookbook, Hamish.

:DAnybody can sprinkle dust on their scans and claim ownership, Pete. But fingerprints on the negs is irrefutable proof! (Try THAT with your fancy-schmancy digital camera!;) I am pioneering the technique.;)

Thanks, Pete. So far I like this recipe and I'm going to stick with it and see what happens.

Yeah,...try that with your fancy-schmancy digital camera!:p

In all seriousness, Pete, I've concluded that sprinkling dust on my scans just isn't strong-enough proof of ownership for obvious reasons. So I'm pioneering this new method of copyright which is clearly irrefutable proof of ownership. ;)

Thank you, Pete. So far I'm very happy with this recipe.

Super looking tones Brian, and the Mamiya looks to produce a nice sharp neg

Don't know much about the Mamiya C33 - what's it like to use?

Thanks, Chris. The C33 hangs over your shoulder or neck with the light and airy disposition of your average brick. But gazing down into the ground glass screen and bringing a subject into focus is an absolutely delightful experience. The shutter is lovely and quiet, too. The C330, which succeeded the C33, is lighter in weight and has a few modernizations, but overall I think any of these big Mamiya TLRs would be a joy to use as mine is.

I want to see Pete using that to shoot street! :D
