60ish Different Sections To The Forum

As Members Do You Need 60 Different Sections To Comment, Upload To, Read & Post In..........??

Is It Needed, Does It Confuse Things, Does It Look Good, Bad, Tidy, Untidy Or Indifferent

PLEASE DISCUSS & AIR YOUR OPINIONS.

The site does looks excellent although I think there are too many sections.

Also I am not sure if the 'new posts' works very well, think it is to do with vb4 as on other sites that use vb3 there is a 'new posts' and ' todays post' that shows all from the day.
Maybe it will get better with updates to vb4.

I think there a few too many sections if im honest and I barely seem to use any of them. Infact I really wasnt sure where to post about the memory cards the other day!

Any constructive comments for improvement are a good thing ... I can't work with "there are to many" I need "why don't you do this" etc

Look, I want to make this as clear as I possibly can... I might run this place, but I'm not precious about it ... I know it can be better ... So why not help me ... I'm a proper lefty at heart, sharing ideas and doing things for the greater good is my bag and I have no issue being told I'm wrong ... So come on people ... Help the place out, and help me out!

A few suggestions, starting at the bottom the forum list:

1. 'Forum comments and crticism' and 'web site comments and criticism' could be combined.

2. Not sure about so many brand rooms, but dpreview has many brand areas so why not.

3. The 'film and conventional equipment' could all be on one forum, no need for so many different film sub forums.

Maybe loose a lot of the sub forums and combine them as they can easily be added later and threads moved about to the relevant forums.

A forum that is clearly about mobile phone photograhy would be useful, maybe phonetography or phonegraphy ?

I think this forum is great place, but there are far to many sections making the front page looking very untidy. Many of the section can be merged to make this less confusing for everyone some of the sections i feel are not of much use at all.
The following is me personal opinions for what they are worth, i feel these ideas would improve the look & feel of the forum

Personally I Would Merge The Following Sections

People - Nudes & Glamour ** related subjects regardless of clothes or not.....”Maybe” **
Landscapes Architecture - Flora ** cant quite see the connection but a new name may be required **
Specialist Photography - Macro ** In My Book Macro IS A Specialist Subject **
Video Gallery - Digital Camera Video Discussion ** very similar subjects that don’t really need their own section **
General - Beginners ** Make This General Discussion Section **
Lighting - Darkroom ** again specialist subjects that could be merged with “ specialist photo section above” **
Large Format - Compact Digital Cameras - (merge with ) Digital Cameras + Discussion
Software - Hardware Computers & Other Technology ** Both Sections Are Computer Related **
Classifieds Advertisements - Feedback ** very similar subjects that don’t really need their own section **
Forum Comments & Criticism - Website Comments & Criticism ** These Are To Similar**

not sure about that my self, do you think that need to be separate from digital cameras ...

brands are irrelevant really its all about what you can do with your equipment rather than what brand is written the front.

Seems sensible to me Hamish. It tends to be a split between Nikon and Canon (even though there are a few Sony shooters on board and I use several others) in the main and although I fall into the Nikon camp for SLR's I still read the Canon posts. I think that a broader split of digital cameras / analogue might be cleaner and would reflect the 'focus' on image making rather than equipment (which I see as a strength of the forum). Like you said in one of your posts, there is nothing wrong with liking the kit but I would not enjoy the forum anywhere as much is it mainly kit related discussions.
