Hi all

i have bought a new canon 5d mk3 and a second hand 70-200 2.8 lens mk1 at christmas, I'm still getting used to the camera as it has loads more features than the mk2. tonight however i was photographing a local football match and noticed that i take 2 shots in servo mode and the colour changes between the 2. i have posted them on here for you to see. i was wondering if this is me, the settings or is there something wrong with the kit(lens or camera)?

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Did you have it on Auto WB?

Most likely it's seeing the flickering of the stadium lighting - to fast for you and I to see, but the camera is reacting to it, and the WB is changing between frames

Best to set WB to a fixed manual position - like tungsten, or incandescent, for example, to match the lighting in the stadium, and stop the random color changes

I think that might fix the issue.

You could also take a Kodak grey card to the game, take a shot of that under the stadium illumination, and use that to set a custom WB in camera - this should be spot on.

Exact thoughts of Chris and would wholeheartedly go along with that idea. It is often easy to see the flickering if you put the camera in live mode, it shows quite clearly on the LCD screen if you point the lens toward the light source.

If the colour temperature of the light is changing as it flickers then that would account for it (and I guess it would). Maybe auto would be better after all - if it is fast enough which I guess it is as it is based on the capture. Interesting.

Could be both - depending on the lighting being used

The stadium Julian shot has upgraded lighting that's suitable for TV coverage - so they've fixed the issue with better lighting up front
