Great colours as always Chris - somehow the comp doesn't do it for me this time though. Maybe because all the action is on the sides with a bit of a hole in the middle? Nothing to lead the eye through the shot to the distance? dunno...

Ah ha, but my cunning plan was to have them as a series - with the natural landscapes forming a sort of sine wave that ran through the set - like this:

You shoot any compressed landscapes with your 70-200 or longer lenses?

Not on this trip - spent most of the time being 'nurse' to my good lady wife after minor hand and foot surgery!

I do have some shots in mind however...

Pete - she just said no

Nice work Chris. Love the red colors in the cliffs.

The color is strong at this time of year, as the rocks still have winter moisture in them, and that really helps them show a strong red cast. (Basically oxidation)

As the spring moves into summer they dry out, and the color fades quite a lot.

Also, have found with experience that the rock surface reflects a lot of light, and using the CPL takes that sheen away giving a deeper color. Couldn't believe it the first time I tried it, but I guess the rock face acts as a kind of low grade reflector, polarizing the light as it bounces off towards the camera.

Canceling the reflections off the rock is an excellent (IMHO) reason to use the CP filter. Also I never thought about how moisture in the rock would impact its color but it makes sense to me. In any case your capture is good.
