Yes, the D4 should be special, so will the DSmk4 be, expensive times ahead 
I am also expecting Canon to launch a camera with a larger than 35mm sensor one of these days....... Maybe using something along the lines of the proof of concept large (202x205mm) sensor they displayed at a show a while ago.
I almost always carry two bodies, not so much as a backup but I hate swapping lenses. Depending on the location, I like to cover from around 17 to 200mm or up to 400+mm if I expect birds/wildlife.
