Ansel Adams never had it... ... He was a landscape photographer!! ;)

I don't get this idea of it "Takes to long to settle"... What do you mean?

If you'e shooting 12 fps sports, panning around after the fast moving action, the first few frames may be softened as the IS stabilizes the image in the frame.

I see it referenced by people in IS discussions - but I don't own an IS lens to test the theory.

The only use for IS I had considered with my long teles, was the panning mode IS when doing speed blurs on cars at slower shutter speeds.

I could see that mode getting you a higher keeper rate - and have noted that the number of such shots used in the motor press has increased post IS being released...

These seem like minor niggles to me to have to say!

My 16-35 vr was used numerous times in Wales were the vr was a distinct advantage

Shooting at slower shutter speeds allowed use of lower iso and greater dof at times when light levels would have usually required a tripod! VR in the right hands can give a 4 stop advantage!
I'm not saying it's right for everything, but it certainly has worth to me!
I'm supprised it's so frowned upon when it's a feature that can just be turned off when it could be a disadvantage ...
