Bridge Camera Advice

The taxi driver I always use to go to Heathrow asked what I thought of the Panasonic Lumix FZ48. He'd seen it for sale at £315.36 with a 4GB card and case on some shopping channel or other. I confessed to knowing nothing about these cameras and, having had a look at reviews of this model, I suspect there are better options (maybe from Fuji). Does anyone have any recommendations? It will be just for holiday pictures and the like and he really is unlikely to get into photography in a big way.

Yeah, I'd go for a Fuji hs20 ...
They can be had for £298 in sight 2 sound ...

I'm tempted by one anyway, but I'm not sure I'd use it that much... It's a cheap route to super tele lens, I so rarely have a ned to shoot at the 720mm that it can do I can't justify an expensive lens, but there has been a couple of times recently the moon has looked ripe for shooting, and birds in the garden etc...

Anyway, it's the one I would go for, closest thing to an slr in th way it handles etc

I haven't seen the HS20 but I have seen the HS10 and that is a fairly decent camera to be fair. The HS20 is supposed to be better.

Agree on the Fuji recommendation. It's a great, quality versatile camera - especially for a non-photographer.
