Believe it or not this is an Eye Catcher, so called because it is one of three eye catchers positioned around Coombe Park so called because they were build in the 1700's to be just that, a sight that could be seem from the main house to make the estate look even more impressive.

It is called Dunstall Castle and is just outside Earls Crombe, it is a listed monument..

Nice - Is that what you'd call a folly then Kev?

eye catcher, folly what ever its an amazing looking structure.

Great photo of it also at a guess at sunset, i like how you have hidden the sun behind yet still captured some detail in the monument. Also like how the brightness of the sun shines through and around the arch way.

Great shot KK

Thanks Daz, This folly I have been wanting to find for ages but never seemed to get round to it until yesterday, madness really as it is so easy to get to and so near to where I live and right by the side of the road.

It was around 4:30 - 5:00 pm and shot through a grad ND filter.

It is a very nice picture Kev. I love how you've caught it in near sillouhette with the back-lighting and all. Very nice indeed.

There was a "folly" built on a hill near where my wife's relatives live (Kilbarchan in Renfrewshire). I became interested in it and read about it. Apparently these things were often built by the wealthy folk in the 18th/19th Century in order to add some feaux-ancientness to their property. I don't think they were intended to deceive, they were just talking points and visual attractions I think.

I love this place! I've been here many of times, but never satisfied with any of the shots I've walked away with.
Great shot KK, certainly nailed it! Wish I took that :p
