First shots from D700

First, apologies to all D700 users. I didn't put any thought into these images at all - so please don't look for aesthetic merit! Also, I didn't dig deep into the settings of the camera. Just put the newly-arrived memory card into the camera, and shot a few things around me.

Thoughts: I think we'll get along just fine! The potential is there. I like the feel of it in my hands. Still haven't got Live View working, though, but I like the viewfinder.

Second, and main apology, is to Rhona, who really didn't want to be photographed (she's on a short break from Goldsmiths) and would kill me if she knew these were here

Lots of backlighting, but enough detail to work with:

It does shoogles too!!

You can't assess a camera without shooting a brick wall. I could have brought out tons of detail:

Next-door neighbour's bins. Plenty of scope in the raw files for changing things, which I resisted:

Glad to see you got shoogle in there Rob. Perhaps the brick Petes on about is a extra always look on the bright side of life.
Nice set Rob but what do you think?

Wow did not expect digital images, yet the d700 is a very decent full frame camera and look forward to seeing how you find it. I love mine but far to heavy to lug around now.
I see you caught Rhona in a responsive mood

Cheers, lads. I slightly regret uploading these, but I was excited about having a new toy. Ivar will be along in the minute to persuade me that shooting film is better ;)

Brian, don't worry, I've just got a couple of new films to enjoy, including an SFX roll. And you yourself are partial to the odd digital shoot, are you not?

There's a bit of an learning curve to get the best out of a camera like the D700, and I'd forgotten about using Camera Raw before exporting to Elements. I know, I should try Lightroom again, but I never understood it last time. We shall see what we shall see.

Rob Lightroom is the best software out there Great for organising and processing your shots been using it since the first beta version and would not use anything else.
I'm planning to do a full tutorial workflow on Utube soon so if theres anything you need to know just give me a shout.

That's nice of you, Martin. I might give it another go. I'll get back in touch if and when. As many on this forum know, I am not very technically minded - something of an understatement.

Really theres not much to it really and the great thing is you can set up presets that can do what you want with a click of a button.

I also remember the first beta versions which were very simple and enjoyed using them. It has come along way.
I'll keep an eye out for your tutorials.

Well, I finally got Live View working - they clearly don't encourage you to use it! However, now in Ap mode, it only works on f16! I'm on the brink of sending this back to the seller, but what's holding me back is the awareness of my stupidity levels with technology. It is probably all my fault. The manual is big, deep and wide, and not easy to understand. But I do like the camera. In email conversation with a tech guy at Nikon UK.

The man at Nikon was so nice, patient and clear. I now have command of the camera! I didn't know I had to LOCK the lens at f16, rather than just placing it there. Now I can see LV when needed, and can easily change the Ap values. Piece of cake!

Coming along nicely. However, I'm just so busy this week, I've not been able to concentrate on shooting. So this is another quickie. Nice bokeh, with Hamish's old 85mm 1.4 Nikkor lens. I like the colour rendition too. Should have resisted f1.4. Better perhaps f4.
