The UPS man had left a nice parcel for me yesterday when I got home - my 14mm wiiiiiide Fuji lens had arrived from Crutchfield (Who did a great job and beat B&H by about a week on delivery)
It's a large piece of glass - more like the existing 60mm lens in size and weight
Has the nice 1/3 stop aperture ring, and a new focus ring design with end-stops, rather than the type that revolves for ever (like the existing prime design).
It has nice distance info on the dial when you use the MF - and good upgrade for MF shooters.
The lens features the new 'snap' focus ring for MF use - you can snap the focus ring back to reveal the distance markers, and also whip it around and it will 'fast forward' to the far end of the focus range.
The hood is the same design as the one on the current Fuji zoom - a petal design similar to the Canon one's I'm used to.
Build quality is excellent - but for nearly a grand $ incl shipping and tax, you'd hope it would be!
Didn't have much time to play before the sun went down for the day - and I had to update the camera firmware and the 35mm lens firmware first, before going out to shoot.
Managed to get to Oceanside pier before the light went completely - no real sunset as it was too cloudy, but some nice moody clouds.
The 14mm gives a lovely wide feel, super sharp, minimal if any CA, and lovely straight lines.
Fuji are saying that all distortion correction on this lens is optical - hence the large size/weight, and higher price.
Will play further over the weekend and shoot more samples so I can get a feel for it
So far, very happy
