Critique Welcomed Groom's final preparations

A nice shot Lee, just my sort of wedding photography. I know you like a critique, so I hope you don't mind ...
With this sort of black and white (indoors and busy) there are a couple of things I do to help with the tone of the image
To my eye there is a little too much contrast here...
So, in lightroom to balance this I tend to drop the contrast slider quite a bit, obviously this flattens the image. then counteract that by dropping the blacks and upping the whites. What this gives you is a less contrasty midtone and more contrast in the darks and lights. Im sure there is better terminology for explaining what I mean, but I hope that makes sense?

Here is an example (all be it on a less complex image)

Notice the skin tones remain quite balanced apart from where they drop into shadow, yet the shadows and light areas are still v dark and bright respectively. Where this works particularly well is in the tone of the veil, without that first step of a drop in contract much of the detail in the upper part is lost to white ...

Good thread - love the reportage type of wedding photography - nicely done

Good tip Hamish

A really good one Lee. Not a smile in the bunch though. Everyone looks really serious. And the hats are fantastic.
