Haha, no its a good site to be fair ... Certainly a lot of info!
Problem is, because there is no right to reply, no collective opinion etc the point of view can sometimes be a bit one sided ...
I worked in camera sales for a few years and we used to get what I coined as "rockwellites" in the shop ... People who have read a lot of his views and lost site of any balance!
An infamous incident (within the shop) occured when I had a customer come in who wanted to but an 18-200 Nikon lens and Nikon camera ... He was dead set that this was the kit he wanted!
Fine, until he started effectively quoting ken
"I'll never need a tripod again he says"
"well" I say "as good as vr is its not te answer to everything"
Bare in mind I had a 18-200 lens at the time
"oh he says, I can't see how I will need a tripod with vr"...
I explained a few situations where a tripod is nessasary
"nope..."
I was wrong aparently and he was right...
He hadn't used any of the kit he wanted to buy, but as ken had said it was a replace all lens that is what he believed I tried to explain that the 18-200 was a great lens but that it wasn't perfect... He wouldn't believe me and accused me of trying to sell him stuff he didn't need ... All inwas trying to do was explain that there wet good reasons to own other lenses than the 18-200...
Anyway, he left in a huff and I was left bewildered ... Until I read what rockwell says
Nikon 18-200mm
As I say, I don't really have issue with Rockwell, or his site really... Just folk who aren't willing to accept that there is more than one opinion!
And as he offers no right to reply, that is all his readers get ... Somthing that I think is quite dangerous to the uninformed mind!
I think lens site was one of the earliest things that gave me the idea to set up a forum!
