Huntington Beach Looking North and South.

Huntington Beach from Pacific Coast Highway. Holga 120N, with Kodak Portra 400 film. (Thought I was shooting 6x6. Only when I got the images back did I realize I was shooting 6x4.5.) Neverthless, I love the Portra 400.

North, with the Palos Verdes Peninsula just visible on the horizon.

South, with the pier in the distance. The building on the end of the pier with the red roof is Ruby's Diner.

That pretty much sums up the weather at the moment - I want my sunshine back! :(

So this is what the fuss is all about with the Holga - I've seen them on sale, but never really taken a close look.

So is the 6x6 / 6x4.5 selectable in camera or is that a feature of the film you load?

Nice Brian. I like the raindrops on glass look that the Holga often produces. And, if I'm not mistaken, there's that gull again, just above Ruby's Diner!! :)

These remind me of those newseel shots about a town batteneing down the hatches ahead of a hurricane! Espcially the second one.

I wouldn't judge the Holga's appeal by these particular images, Chris. The softness of the images is certainly characteristic, as is the distortion. But many photographers take very fine photos, exploiting these characteristics to good effect.

The camera comes with masks. You select one or the other for the size of image you want. Or, I've read you can use no mask. (I haven't tried that yet.)

Light leaks are often a feature of these camera, too. Especially the older ones. Also, I understand that light leaks are more likely to show up when shooting with no mask in the camera.

Thanks, Darren. I pass that place every day going to work. Never eaten there though. Nice shot. It looks HDR-ish, in particular the doorway and especially the sign above.

Thanks, Brian. I love tiki culture and this place is a mecca for me. It's definitely NOT HDR, though. I'm not an HDR kind of guy!
