Critique Welcomed I Had To Try This...

It's not bad though. Where your feet 'meet' the log is a bit of giveaway. Maybe also blurring the edges of your cutout a bit (layer behind made a few pixels bigger and blurred?). @Beth Anthony might have some good tips.
Thank you Pete!

Yeah, I tried to do something about the contact zone of feed and log, but clearly not enough! And the blurring of the edges is a good idea indeed! I will give it another try! And I will wait for the tips by @Beth Anthony! Thank you!

i try to have my cutout on a darker background than the background i'm placing it on, it just makes it easier to blend in. the feet are floating off of the log as pete pointed out, move your shadow up a little bit so it's higher than the bottom of the feet instead of right on it. you also need to have a stormtrooper somewhere in there. you just do, don't question it.

the hardest part is making sure the lighting in each element matches up. you did a nice job with that, the lighting on you is believable for someone standing under a grove of mushroom trees, just watch out for the spider when she comes home.

haha, thanks a lot! Have no stormtroopers at hand, but I will look for it...

I will work on the shadow at the feet!

Damn, you have big mushrooms where you live Rense!

I'd add a slight Gaussian blur around yourself it just might help with losing that highlight around your right side, our left as we view, When I cutout I'll have a 5px feather just so the bleed into the background isn't too sharp, I think also that the point your feet touch the log needs a little more shadow directly on the contact point, for me looking at the point of contact of the mushrooms is what I'd be looking for. Great image and idea Rense, and I guess the mushrooms. being Dutch are magic??

i use two different methods to make shadows. the first way is with a blank layer and a black brush. i paint on the shadow then set the blending mode to multiply and change the opacity to 15% or so. readjustment of the opacity is always needed, but 10-15% will get you started.

the second method is using a levels adjustment layer to darken things and masking in where you want the shadow. sometimes this method looks better in harsh light situations.
