In the mind of...

I mentioned in a recent post I called 'A question of perspective' that, on a recent trip to Valletta in Malta, I found a neighbourhood where it felt like being in a creation of the mind of M.C. Escher, with its labyrinthine array of stairways, arches and bridges. That post showed a mind-twisting photo which played on the particular characteristics of wide angle lenses. The day after that, I returned and, with more time on my hands, I left my incredibly understanding wife sitting outside a great little café with a good book, coffee and cake and set off to see what other possibilities there might be. All of these photos were taken within 30 metres of each other.

...and for the sake of completeness, here is the 'Question of Perspective' image.

Chris, When you mentioned M. C. Escher I decided to add my take on his "Relativity" drawing. I photographed a stairwell in a commercial office building over an eight year period. One of the images I felt I had to shoot was something Escheresque. Here is a small sampling of that series. You mentioned all your shots were taken within 30 metres of each other. I will say the same. Only measured vertically.

Thanks for showing these Bill. I can see why you felt Escher may have had a hand in the design of that! I really like the second one.

I really like the second one.
Thanks Chris. This project was my first real venture into the abstract and I really enjoyed the visual hunt. As the project progressed my eye became more discerning of what the film was seeing and my objectives more refined. I haven't made it over to the Audio Standard yet. I'm a recovering audiophile of sorts. Back in the day I had a dedicated custom built listening room but life brought unforeseen changes and I no longer have that to enjoy. But I can dream can't I?
