I've been taking photos on this "Instgram" app on the iPhone, it let's you take and edit photos and upload them to a gallery ... I'm not sure what the point of it is as such but I have been enjoying using it for making photos in combo with "photogene" and "tiltshiftgen" here are some of the results

I took and edited all over those unbowed than a minute often whilst walking around ... It takes so little time and because always looks pretty even if the photo is crap it's really satifing ...

I find that many photos (especially a lot of mine) have the right composition but the elements that make up the subject are lacking. I think that this kind of photography distances the viewer from the subject while allowing them to concentrate on the composition. Therefore even if the things that you take photographs of are relatively uninteresting it doesnt matter too much.

I'm with you Paul ...
Lomo is low rate, cheap thrills photography ...
I go through stages of loving it and stages of loathing it ... But right now this digital version is giving me a lot of pleasure ...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dajoolzcat/5400845772/ More along the lines of the retro camera apps that are available, I thought I'd pop this one on of my Edixa Prismat seeing taken with my iphone, How convenient, a retro style picture of a retro SLR. anyway, nothing special, just a bit of eye candy.............. :)

I Use instagram alot, it can get quite addictive, there's something quite self indulgent in posting a quick snap and getting instant world wide gratification, also a little voyeur into other peoples lives and cultures. it's pretty much like twitter for photographs. Follow people you want to see more of and vice versa. I think it needs to be taken for what it is really, like hamish said cheap thrills. I don't yet have the ability to take stunning shots like the ones on here but feel I have an eye for a good shot, this Like alot of iPhone photography apps it let's a noob like me see what can be done.

I agree Paul, I felt slightly fraudulent posting my album pics on here as most people go to great effort to compose and post edit their photographs with great technical ability.I got quite abit of stick on flickr for posting iPhone pics "go buy your slef a real camera" and " great shot for a wannabe photographer " hence to say those people are no longer on my contact list.
I see it snap it app it!! but in my opinion I'm not trying to take photographs that could pass for something their not . they are just photographs taken on a mobile phone and edited to look the best in it's limitation. It's interesting to see hamish's instagram pics and what a skilled photographer can do with the limitations of the app it almost levels the playing field (in this genre) for newcomers like my self, I think any of you with an iPhone should get instagram would be fun to see all your results on here

I imagine there are many people out there who just want to show off the fact that they have expensive gear and somehow someone creating images on lesser devices are are not to be taken seriously. Frankly this is complete bollocks and I have never seen that attitude on here.

what a load of ****ing ******** ... i have absolutely no time for that sort of person ... how dare they!
this is exactly why i set up this place ... that sort of person is not welcome on this forum at all!

i cant stand snobbery, it makes my blood boil, why people think that just because they have this or that camera makes them a proper photographer i do not know ...

its not about the camera .... its to a certain extent not even about the photo... its about the person ... if someone loves taking photos with any type of camera they are a photographer and deserve respect from every other photographer for it ...

and apart from anything Tom, when i saw your photos i was stunned at them ... as i said in that text, some of them are superb!!

i really must urge you to post the one of the brids on here as soon as possible ... i really like that image!! taken on an iphone or not ...

i agree ... but you really shouldnt underestimate your ability ... i dont want to sound like a kiss arse, but if those are your first attempts at photography of any type i think you have made a bloody good start!

Hamish, Tom and all, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have said. Passion and the final image. I guess most of us take images because it pleases us (even if you are doing it for a commercial reason - it soon shows if the passion is missing). If others like it too it is great (and essential if you expect them to pay you). How that is achieved is not really relevant unless there is a technical need for a certain resolution, archival permanence, colour accuracy etc. There are many great shots posted on this site. They may not be ones that I appreciate especially but I can see the passion behind them. Hopefully the same is true of some of the ones I post. Might not be to everyone's taste but the intention was there and the feedback is always useful. I have some cheap gear and some very expensive stuff and my ability to take completely terrible pictures with either is pretty equal!

Wow! What a discussion! I agree mainly with the pride that an individual takes in their final image is enough to publish them selves as someone who can take a good picture. Look, I'm taking pictures on an DSLR that costs half the price of an iPhone at full cost so it's most certainly not about expensive kit. The expression is true that states 'it's not what you've got, it's how you use it'. Tom, you've definitely got a good eye for photos and I do like what you've posted, is the third picture at the bridge in pershore by any chance? Really do like that one.

thanks dan much apreciated!! and well put. the third photo was taken on the river severn like the other two it was about 2pm with a really thick dense fog very strange day, i walk to work along the river through out the year (when its not flooded) so i get to see the ever changing scenery.

There's the birds!
It's right because the composition slightly jars with it's selfaking the image all the more uncomfortable ... And I guess old Hitchcock might have something to do with the feeling it gives ...
And the misty one is a gem!

Yes i love the awkwardness of the birds it annoys me and puts me on edge being forced to only see half of the building you almost loose some of your senses. it automatically wants your eyes to scan down to try and establish scale Hight and distance of the building but instead your forced back up to the birds!! That's what I feel.
