Interesting morning

No photos to show you, just a tale.

Went to John Lewis' store this morning to look at the X100, which has been occupying my thoughts for a while. Spoke to one salesman who said it was "OK", but they didn't have one in stock, and can't get any from the supplier. Despite that, they wouldn't sell the one they had.

My wife dragged me over to look at a food mixer...

Later, I managed to sneak away, and returned to the X100, and this time there was a different sales person. He warned me off it, saying the Micro Two Thirds was better, and cheaper. He didn't like the look of the X100 - why that should be of importance to me, I didn't ask. I revealed I had a Canon G10, to which he said, "Well, what do you want one of these for?"

These guys obviously wanted to keep it for themselves! I can't afford it right now, anyway, but did want to try it out, but couldn't get my hands on it...

Hi Rob
I used to work there before retirement, when I was there we used to pride ourselves that we could offer unbiased advice and I have been known to dissuade customers from things that wouldn't do what they wanted to do, but try and show a better range for them to choose from that would. Bear in mind that the one they have would be a demonstrator and as such would have had a lot of different people handling it not necessarily in most careful way.
Cheers

whilst i agree in the looks department their own personal opinion should have no relevance to the technical specs of the camera

Sounds like you are close to the breaking point, you should consider those dudes did you a favour :D.

Done and dusted! Should arrive on Friday, complete with memory card and leather case, and 12 months warranty. My wife gave me an advance on my birthday. Bless her cotton socks.

Many thanks to Mark!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody want to buy a Canon G10? I think I'll keep my K1000 for the occasional film work.

How exciting!

Oh crikey, what's been going on back in Blighty then! :D

Nicely done gents - Rob, if you're wife wants someone to blame then I'd suggest Jim or Larry, as they've had one for ages, and Hamish is running a close third on the blame list.. ;)

Allan - did they make any deals at the show, or was the temptation just too much to withstand? :D

Well, mine is a refurb, so I hope it is OK.

Same 1 yr warranty - can't argue with that - you'll probably have the latest lens unit with the non-sticky aperture blades ;)
