Lunar Eclipse Tomorrow (Saturday)

My daughter was asking if I could get a good shot of the moon for her...think I'll show her this masterclass and give myself some breathing space! :)

Brilliant photos, though...

Thanks Adrian - the Moon is one of those deceptive subjects

Your brain tells you it's much bigger than it really is.

When I did my research yesterday, I was amazed to find that you need a 2000mm lens on a full frame body, to fill the frame.

I was thinking 300mm before that!

Also had no idea how dim the eclipse would be before reading up on it - F-dark would be an understatement!

Definitely at the limits of my camera hardware - and really into the telescope range for this type of shot.

Great shot dude!! Very very impressive!! I showed my wife and said to her 'now that's what you call a shot of the moon'! She was equaly impressed! Very well done chris!

Hi Chris,I would also ech the statements above. You would need some serious hardware to get the sort of shots we all would like. Nice set up you were using. It was pretty dark here too. Although you could clearly see the colours getting a good shot was impossible for me. Hardware limited and most of all a brain that refused to get out of Jet Lag mode. A few lessons learned though. Also an hour or two with my 16 year old daughter who wanted to come along!

Chairs, nice set there. I like the close up. Here in Montana the eclipse reached totality at 7:03 am Mountain time. The very first faint light was already coming to the eastern sky and the moon hung low over the mountains. I'll post a shot I took on a separate thread called Montana Eclipse.
