MACKEREL THIS MORNING

I was asked to be on the quay to pick up some mackerel, which are now in the fridge, nice and fresh four hours after being caught. Dinner for the next two or so days. The lobsters were not on offer, well not at the price i'd like to pay .

Great to see more reportage from your local fishing community, Julian. I've been anticipating the next instalment of their exploits. One can almost smell the freshness here. All good shots. The last is a bit of a laugh. What a poser he is :D

We have a fish van in our street once a week, fresh from the morning's catch at Pitenweem in Fife. Lovely stuff. Not as fresh as four hours, but fairly close. Beats any of the fish shops around here.

Thanks Rob. Yes between me and you Malc is a poser. Dont let him hear or he'd set his lobsters on me.
Of course Mackerel are best eaten that day but some fish is by far improved by resting. Flat fish are better kept in a fridge for a day or more and of course Turbot is cut and bled when caught and rested. Saying that supermarket shop fish you never know how old but most if not all fish vans I know are run by people who know their business and have most often arrived from the fishing industry from some area of knowledge.

Cracking set, Julian and, in these, I prefer the colour ones (although the B&W ones are super anyway). I guess if you handle lobsters like those that you need to make sure your fly is one up! ;)
Thanks Pete. Yes I like the colour ones as well. Shot iso400 f2.8 mostly. A dull day drizzle which suits the Merrill's well and colour output. What did surprise me or I'd forgotten, is how I like the subdued colour of the Sigma's at higher iso's if you dont mind a bit of blotchy.
Yes no flies on him

Great set, Julian.I too like the color images. Something special about the Sigma colors. Subdued yet lively somehow. I think I recognize the chap in the last photo.

Love them all, but sorry about the stinginess you are met with in regard to the lobster Julian:D What a mate. A lobster for an image right:rolleyes:

My dear friend lobsterman Malcolm would give me any lobster I asked for, but being a good friend I would not ask. Prices are good at £15 a kilo, these are 3kg each if I remember correctly. You see why I dont ask ;) He might say no :D
