Birds in my garden #3 - Male Sunbird

This little fellow is not easy to catch, he never sits still for more than a second or two. Here I was fortunate to have the camera aimed and focused as he landed.

He is looking down at the nest he and his bride are building down below on the leave of a plant. They weave the nest using spider webs and small leaves.

Canon EOS 7D and Canon 100-400 L IS at f7.1 and 1/200 sec, 400mm hand held while walking in the garden.

Thanks for looking!

Wow, that green is so metallic - amazing!

The BOKEH on that lens is nice, and the sharpening really helps the bird pop off the screen.

So just how big is your garden again? (imagining a huge expanse with herds of Rhino and the odd lion)

I enjoy seeing birds people in other countries get in their gardens, but when you see some of the stunningly beautiful coloured ones I do feel a bit envious:p.

Lovely shot of this colourful little beauty:D.

Thanks Chris and Glen!

Glen, no, no Rhino or Lion! (Closest is my cat :) I have had baboon and even a Cheetah but those were exceptions) The garden is is a reasonable size, around 10 000m^2 Large enough to have around 300 species of indigenous trees, plenty resident birds and a few mammals.

The lens is quite good, if I go on a hike (garden or somewhere else) and I expect birds or other wildlife it is normally my lens of choice.

i like the idea of having a garden big enough to hike around ... i could spit to the end of mine ... although i wouldnt ... it might hit a chicken

Great shot of a stunning little bird ,Love how the light catches the green giving it that metalic sheen and helps the small green tail feather standout
