Maple at Omaha Beach

Yes, it's a strange one. Standing almost at the beach, on top of the dunes near the Omaha Beach monument, it receives all the western winds coming from the Atlantic. Resilience of life....

Interesting how it managed to grow and wonder if there was more shelter at one time whilst it was growing.

I don't think so Julian. I think it is a rather juvenile one, although I am not sure what the effect is of the salt-spray and storms on the growth of maple. But this species is a rather swift grower, and I think it could not have survived the battles in June '44... So it must be post-war....

Thank you all, btw, for the kind words! Appreciated, as ever.
