Massively OOF, But I Like It

Like several others, trying surreptitious street shots. I think the OOF is as much camera movement as wrong focus. But I kept coming back to this image.

Olympus XA3 and expired Ilford FP4 that I processed in Rodinal.

Works to make it very dynamic Brian - nice abs! ;)

Does a tighter crop from the left make it work better? It's an odd one as I assume it works because of the composition but equally if it were sharp then it would lose a lot of its charm and sense of moment. Nice capture.

That reminds me I must sell my collection of XA bits.

it has that look of the fifties, somewhere glamourous, like Nice or Cannes. must be to do with the hairstyles as much as the lighting.

Does this not say it is all about the composition of a image

That's exactly what I was thinking too Peter. Not sure why but it does and I have that famous shot of Frank Sinatra walking along the front in mind. I love the soft glow the lack of focus gives to the girl on the left and she does very much become the star of the shot and the composition is very much about her I think. A super image Brian.

Thanks, Mike. I'm not sure the tighter crop idea works (for me at least). Visually I need that empty space to the left of the girl. The background scenery could be improved thought, that's for sure. Thanks again, Mike.

Good question, Steve. I certainly enjoy blur when the comp and subject are right. Thank you, Steve.

Thanks very much, Pete. I think you're right about the girl on the left being the star. My eye is drawn also to the girl on the right, though. Is she with them, or just passing through the frame? And the look on the chap's face,...would it be as interesting without the drag on the fag? Anyway, these are some of the thoughts that, as I said in the post, keep bringing me back to this image. Thanks again, Pete.
