any suggestions?

120J that gets used 2-3 times a week. now only fires at full whack no matter which power setting I put it on (manual power). Buying another is possible but I had planned to eventually go with something like the Godox AD-180. Which is around 5-6x dearer than another one of these.

Would prefer to fix this one if poss. Adding 1/32nd power ratio would be handy too.

How about a S/H Lumedyne or Hasselblad unit?

what does a lumedyne run from. power wise? Blad sounds way pricey.

Lumedyne score NULL POINTS for their pdf brochure which. for your comfort and convenience, has been positioned 90 degrees away from where it needs to be. ow my neck

yes they certainly look the business, only thing is, I do not own a car nor am I thinking of buying one. an assistant perhaps, but most of what I do, I am on my tod, and either on foot or a modern penny farting

The D40 looks very blad TTL specific so I'll pass. The Lumedyne however looks like a great little system:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lumedyne-40...414?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46136b33b6 all for $500 but, 1. won't sell outside the US ie I can't even ask him a question

2. was hoping to get that remote power control feature, which the Lumedynes kind of have, as you control the power from the pack, but you then need cables all over the place. Currently each light is self contained in terms of triggers and power supply. Because I shoot some social/kids stuff, cables are really an annoyance I can do without.

On the ebay kit, how do I control the output? the photos are too small to see

If I remember right there is a 'power' dial on the heads. I looked at the system a few years ago but went for a Bowens portable kit instead as I could get S-L converters. Bulk wasn't an issue at the time but I was impressed by the Lumedyne units.

I've used Lumedyne - very well made and they deliver in the field (which is what it's all about)

I can ask him Questions Peter - what do you need to know?

just need to know about the power ratio settings. the photos are small but it looks like there are sliders selecting full half and quarter power. I kind of like to use lower power than that a lot of the time, although I believe that kit has the option for either 200 or 400w/s?

Also, how do the heads fit to light stands? any tilt facility?

The fact it has an international charger sounds good.

tbh I had planned to get by with the 120J flashes until I could afford the Godox or Cheetah barebulb head. I already have the Lithium battery packs for these. The great thing about the Godox is the remote power control setup. all done from a TX type unit on the camera. plus they have a rather nice brolley holder integral to the head -ok it's a $20 add-on, but it really works for me.

so don't go out of your way on this one.

and on further investigation could go with a Quantum T2 used from KEH for $179, which is a bit of a halfway house, still not up to remote control of the power output, head still loose and floppy like the Sunpak, but it works with all my existing modifiers, and connects to my Lithium packs.

someone if so minded so could move this thread to the lighting section...
