Nikon have released a bunch of compact cameras aimed at a broad spectrum of users
The first and possibly most interesting is the COOLPIX AW100/AW100.
Nikon have finally got on the bandwagon of "tough" cameras. This camera like most in this class is rated against being submerged to 10m, dropped from 1.5m and frozen to -10c. They have also included Gps and an electronic compass and some sort of map display. it even comes in a choice of a few colours, including a camo pattern. Seemingly making it very useful for those who enjoy the odd out door pursuit... Of course they are numerous competitors to this camera from fuji olympus etc etc and it would be interesting to see how it stacks up against the Panasonic which according to dpreview is the best in class ...
anyway, here it is

Next on the lineup is Nikons new superzoom contender the COOLPIX S8200.
featuring something that seemingly predicts what you want to take photos of ... clever(???) a decision i usually prefer to make my self but i suppose other might feel differently

cynicism aside, reading the PR, it might prove useful if used correctly ...
Next is Nikons, latest incarnation of its image projecting cameras the COOLPIX S1200pj. Somewhat of a gimmicky feature im sure most would agree, but there is a certain charm to it, and its nice seeing nikon being brave within the compact camera market.

The new Target finding AF function allows the camera to automatically predict and focus on the intended subject
cynicism aside, reading the PR, it might prove useful if used correctly ...
The new Target finding AF function, which uses Nikon's exclusive high-performance image analysis technology, has been adopted. Used for the first time in a Nikon compact digital camera, Target finding AF allows the user to simply point the camera in the direction of the intended subject and the camera immediately predicts that subject and then specifies the focus area and size for focusing. As the active focus area is automatically specified in accordance with the size of the subject, resulting images are in clear focus. In addition, Target finding AF not only works with subjects positioned at the center of the frame, but with off-center subjects as well. This capability is clearly exhibited with shooting of smaller subjects such as flowers, food and the like.
With previous nine-point Auto AF area mode, priority was given to subjects closer to the camera. With scenes like the one at left, this resulted in focus acquisition on coffee cup that were closer to the camera than the intended cake at the center of the frame. With Target finding AF, however, the camera automatically predicts that the cake is the intended subject and focuses on that cake, resulting in capture of the desired image.

Clearer, more vivid image projection with the adoption of Digital Light Processing (DLP) for larger (size of up to 60-inch display) and brighter (40%) projection
Projector brightness has been increased from 14 lumens available with the previous COOLPIX S1100pj to 20 lumens for an increase in brightness of approximately 40%. This enables projection at a maximum size of 60-inch display at a distance of up to 310 cm . What's more, clearer, more vivid projection is now possible with the switch from a single-lamp (color) projection system to a three-lamp (red, green and blue LEDs) projection system, display reproduction of roughly the entire sRGB gamut and a contrast ratio of 200 : 1 or better.
