Nikon D800 / D800E Comparison on Luminous Landscape

First one I've seen. A small but noticeable difference and reinforces my view that it could be a good tool for technical imaging and I suspect we'll get one for the Tessovar.

Nikon D800-D800E First Comparison

It sounds like it could be a good option over the d800 for any application ...
I've only seen one image you have posted from the m9 effected by moire, does it happen often?

Makes you wonder if this and the Fuji xpro are the first steps towards the end of the AA filter altogether ...
I really want to give a d800 a go... If the low light is as good as the d3 I suspect f8 might be buying one

So far not any sign of moire with the X-Pro1. I can not imagine sharper images. Still waiting for RAW support in Photoshop, but the JPEGs are by far the best I have ever seen. Sensor technology seems to be where a lot of R&D is happening now.

Hi Hamish, one of our lads went to a Nikon training day on the D800/E & Nikon say the D3s/D700 is at least a full stop better in low light & the D700 is not being phased out by the 800, they are running side by side. You would need to ask yourself do you really need 36MB pixels ?? Honestly ?? can your computer handle the file sizes ?? More importantly can your clients handle the file sizes ??
I would still go for the D700 myself as how often do you need to go above A2 print size if you are honest with yourself !
Just my little bit at the minute.:D

The d3 will stay as the main camera for us .. but something for studio work with a few more px would be nice
I never (or rarely) print that big ... but it would be nice to be able to say to our clients we could print HUGE if it was required ...

Hi Hamish, you still do not need 36MP for big shots, one of our customers did full billboard size prints from the original Canon 1Ds camera with no problems as remember they are not printing at 1400DPI like on an Epson printer but are big circles of colour when you get up close, it realy is down to the viewing distance as well.
I am not convinced at the pixel end that it does much good, better to invest in as good glass as you can afford, much better in the long run, infact a Hasselblad employee said to us he can not see it being that good as there was a very good reason why they have stopped at 60MP for their camera, the current range of lenses can not deliver the resolution required to take advantage of the sensor & there camera has a much bigger sensor.
It looks like these days the camera companies are producing stuff just to sell & then it seems these days it does not work properly upon release ( see Canon for that LOL )
