Nothing Here

Lesley Jones

Otherwise know as Zooey
On the last morning on my whirlwind trip to Yorkshire, I left an old friend after spending the night and drove a few miles further north to Redcar. I have seen a very nice set of shots from this beach and wanted to give it a try. Having parked about half a mile away, I got my feet on the sand and... nothing! The steel works (or whatever they are), weren't doing anything. There was nobody walking a dog, or surfing and the sun was in the wrong place. :(

I wanted a photograph though, so I took this...

I like what Pete says, Lesley. However, it occurs to me that the opposite is interesting, too, since there is so much shape and texture to the sand.

I think that would work pretty well - it was mostly the sky that attracted me and I had to look for some foreground interest. I really need to get my head around cropping. It scares me. I have the 35mm format hard wired into my brain. If I trim at all, it's only to lose the odd distraction on the edge. I can use the hide function now, so I don't know why I don't experiment...

You'll find Pete is all about square crops Lesley - he's hard wired for 1:1 :D

Sorry Brian - I started posting before you. I agree with you as well, but I honestly think this is why I don't crop. I can't make up my mind as it is, if I bring cropping into the equation then I would never finish anything! :D
I'm with you on that cropping issue, Lesley.
