Ive ordered all my new kit and it should be here tomorrow but I'm not sure if I hve forgotten anything so here is the list if anyone can think of anything else I should have got shout please

Nikon D80 (chose this over D200 simply because it saved me buying all new mem cards)

(Strap charger all leads software disk all includd

18-55 AFS lens

70-300 AF G lens

2 spare batteries

UV filters for both lenses

and a class 10 16gb SD card as a spare

- - - Updated - - -

Oh and an infrered remote control (well it was only a fiver)

Update just spoken to the firm I have got it all from because I paid for it all instead of bidding to get lower price (I had been outbid by the same person on every D80 I had bidded on) I think it cost me about a tenner extra than what they were going on bids for I am now getting

An extra battery (I had got 2 spares coming already)

A 4gb Memory card

A book on using the D80

and a camera bag to keep it all in to be honest I have been amazed how helpful they have been with the order all coming via UPS

Thanks To be honest that was more down to cost Paul an 18-135 averaging £80 more I could have got single Sigma 18-300 superzoom cheaper than the 2 others but its slated by reviewers but every review I have read rates the 18-55 lens as being very good the 70-300 AFG gets better reviews than the more expensive AFS lens but its cheaper likely because to use it on autofocus you really need the D80 and up so those with budget cameras avoid it

Mmmmm, new gear - love that new gear feeling in the morning :D

Congrats Dave - we will expect a full report and copious pics of course ;)

Thanks both as for the pics Chris that depends if the batteries have any charge when it all gets here!! although there will be pics of the equipment at least. My big worry about shooting RAW has now gone after downloading a couple of RAW files online and playing around with them in Lightroom. Amazing the amount of extra control it gives you over JPEG.
In the end I ended up getting it all from one supplier off EBAY called the photographers bag the service from them has been out of this world it reminds me of the service I got when I use to go into Campkins photo's in Cambridge after getting my last few cameras from Jessops it has been a total revelation. Paypal going down yesterdy morning caused more than a few problems Tracey from the firm called me to ask me for a list of all the equipment I ordered as she only got half the order through for the equipment was then all organised while Paypal sorted out there problems after it was all organised she phoned me back to confirm that she had the order. this was after there advertised cut off point for confirmed payments and same day dispatch then there are the extras I am getting because I ended up buying at the buy now price. OK I did order 2 spare batteries from somewhere in Hong Kong and also a mem card from somewhere else According to tracking the parcel is now sitting on a van in Stoke awaiting for delivery!!

I have a 18-55 kit lens on my D3100, its actually pretty good, and as I have a crop camera its hard to find a cheap wide lens for it lol I remember when I first starting shooting and just shot in jpeg, now looking back at older photos I took i'm annoyed I can't tweek them like I could if they were RAW. Large memory cards are cheap, re-shooting the same place isn't lol so i'm going to shoot RAW from now on.

Wide angles are not cheap I have noticed that

I was about to suggest looking at some Pre AI lenses, but it seems that they might not mount corrected to your camera but does with my cheaper D3100 lol. I have a 28mm pre AI which I can use on my D3100 giving me a 42mm lens equivilent. Saying that the 18-55mm kit lens allows a pretty wide shot which you can then crop down.

Check some of the photos I shot with it on this thread, the 18mm wide end works out to be at around the 28mm equivalent and I never really felt I needed anything wider than that in my small walkabout shoot.
