I'm liking the original square format Glenn, and I'm shocked that Pete is moving away from 1:1 - it's a first! 
It gives the 'store' an feeling of open air space with the original comp I think - although that white door does draw the eye rather
I like the windows in the original comp - looking down on the books - it adds to the bizarre scene
Could you just adjust the door tone, and back it down a little to help it blend in rather than stand out?
