Pelicans

These two Pelicans were cruising in the Walvis bay area on the Namibian coast. I passed them while returning on a yacht visiting some of the islands on the Namibian Skeleton coast.

Canon EOS 1DmkIV, Canon 100-400 L IS at 300mm, f 7.1, 1/160 sec

Since they are not used to people they are quite tame.

Saw one on Mykonos last week but didn't take a picture I'm afraid (he's a sort of mascot for the island). I did buy a truly hideous plaster model of one wearing a straw hat for the 'shelf of tack' at work though. I can take a picture of that if you'd like!!

Love Pelicans - I like the way they fly in formation over the ocean, then skim over the waves by just inches - completely effortless.

Interesting plumage on this pair Rudi - not sure my local ones are so colourful.
