Me too. That and BJP are the last of the decent photo magazines left in the UK I think. Pro Photographer is dreadful now (I will not renew the subscription - I must have taken out a 3 year one last time, it seems never ending. The review in AP are good but the rest is pretty repetitive and I haven't looked at the rest for ages. Ag+ never re-surfaced after the editor died.
 
You know, I'd completely forgotten about Aperture. I recall being quite impressed with it when it first came out. Maybe time for a re-visit. There are some good online ones. I like f11 and Adoir Noir. I picked up a copy of American Photo in the airport in Athens once. It is one of the few times I have read a magazine cover-to-cover. I have never found it again so I don't know if that was just a fluke. Maybe I should try a subscription. Diffusion is another favourite. Right up your street too I would think.

Having done a fair bit of air travel recently I've noted that photography mags are hard to locate at airports these days - clearly being displaced by other mags covering tech etc.

I did grab practical photography on the way back from Blighty - and found that it had cleaned up it's act, and was actually trying to offer practical photography tips (instead of endless glamor shoots). http://www.photoanswers.co.uk/Photography-Magazines/Practical-Photography-Magazine/

The issue I read had a decent write-up on using flash to capture some interesting water splash shots. So they are trying!

Other than that I read Black and White on the plane, which actually had some decent image content and interesting journalism/comment. - B&W Magazine

Most of the kit review mags are just crap IMHO - out of date, and out of touch - the InterWebs beat them hands down

I do like online mags like F11 for content - and I use Scoop a lot to keep up to date on the Fuji world - Fuji X-Pro1 | Scoop.it

Scoop is ace as it allows content from all over the InterWebs to be easily browsed in one place

I also have an ongoing subscription to Outdoor Photographer - which has pretty good content and excellent images, and Arizona Highways, which is one of the best landscape photography mags out there.

I got fed up getting magazines, too many are half ads and i'd rather be out doing it than reading about it
 
Now, I've only just flew through this magazine thread. I do love a good flick through a mag of cams (as you know Pete).
Question (upcoming), slightly off subject, but not.... I popped into a book shop in Worcester the other day and asked if there was any reference/books available on classic/vintage cameras. I felt like a right tool when I was asked what the title was called when I responded 'nrrellluuurrrjjdkkkdhhajclassic cameras?!!' A half second glance from the chap revealed a 'you on drugs?' face as I was tapping my fingers on the counter aimlessly making a **** effort to display confidence. AND THEN..... I really dicked it all up and said (whilst uncomfortably scratching the back of my head) looking north west 'well.... Vintage cameras I think it could be called'. Soon the expression escalated to 'you extracting the urine pal?'. By then, I prayed for someone to ring me as a scapegoat so I could swiftly vacate the building and forget the last few minutes of my life.
Now, for the upcoming question. Does anyone here know of a title of a book that contains such content? Or shall I just lay this subject to bed?

Ooh, thanks Rob, it appears that these type of books have slightly more adventurous titles. Lol
I hope they have lots of pictures, not a big reader myself. :)
 
I personally prefer magazines that are more portfolio based but they are getting scare these days. Occasionally I will buy a copy of Amateur Photographer if they have a review of something I'm interested in. In general they seem to do the best reviews. I find BJP good for news and some portfolios.
 
Just went through the current online issue of f11 - just stunning images and good interviews as well - and it's free!
