Yes, and it was disturbing. And more so, criminal gangs orchestrated it. In some cases, if you give them anything, within a minute you'd find yourself surrounded by multiple beggars. We had difficulties getting away from it all. There were many tears and lumps in our throats during the first weeks, till human nature realised that we could not reach out as we well wanted. This was in Chennai formerly known as Madras.
