Privacy-conscious street photo

I have traveled all over the world -- and have been chased by people I have photographed who did not want to be photographed. I was young and it had no effect on me. I once got caught by security in a French high security area and I told them I was just looking for a restroom, which defused the situation and I was escorted off the premises after I did my business -- with my photos intact.

I was intimidated by one person when I was 18 -- my first year of photography (1967). I have not been intimidated since, and I was a good runner. I take the shot I want regardless of the situation. Every successful street photographer has done the exact same thing. Study the history of photography, especially Cartier-Bresson's work during WWII. He didn't let anyone push him around.

I no longer do street photography for one reason -- I can't stand looking at people walking around with cellphones in their hand.

Nice story Gary, maybe you did not smile enough at your younger stage😅? Honestly, street photography at best, is probably to focus on people my age. They hardly have mobile phones visibly and are slow runners🤔
